This evening is a musical tribute to mark the 100th birth anniversary of legendary chazzan (cantor) Hans Bloemendal.
Bloemendal was, among other things, cantor of the Jewish Congregation Amsterdam for over 60 years and enjoys worldwide fame. For instance, he is the first and only Dutch cantor to sign a record contract, which has enabled him to bequeath a wealth of LPs and CDs.
This concert will include American chazzan Chaim Dovid Berson, young Dutch chazzan Sacha van Ravenswade and Danish oboist Henrik Goldschmidt. Especially for this occasion, Bob Zimmerman has produced a large number of arrangements, including new versions of Bloemendal's compositions.
The tribute to Hans Bloemendal will be recorded by EO's Jewish Programming for broadcast on television later this year.
