Giuseppe Verdi: Messa da Requiem
Philips Symfonie Orchestra, Netherlands Concert Choir and the Philips’ Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Jules van Hessen
Soloists: Charlotte Janssen, Carina Vinke, Eric Reddet and Martijn Sanders
Verdi's Requiem is also seen as an opera: death and resurrection, mourning, despair, anger, hope and acquiescence are expressed broadly and without restraint. Four soloists, a double choir and a large symphony orchestra take this death mass outside the walls of the church into the concert hall. The emotions are pushed to the limit by means of overwhelming fortes, alternating with whisper-quiet, subdued passages, transforming this mass of the dead into a spectacular, intense rollercoaster.
